Building GitHub Profile using README.md

Why this feature is a Great Value Addition to your GitHub Profile?

  • You can tell why are you working on these projects and your other interests
  • You can add your other social media links to showcase your other activities and network
  • Can add links of your research papers with small details
  • Students can prepare a short intro and tell about themselves
  • Bloggers can add blog links & websites for easy access while code repo already there
  • Developers can tell about some cool stuff they’re building and open source works
  • It can act more like a portfolio for anyone on the internet

To use this new feature, you need to follow these easy steps …

Method 1:

  1. Create a repo with repo-name as your GitHub’s username
  2. Create a README.md file and now you can design your GitHub profile using editing it.
  3. Once you commit this file you will soon(It might take up to a couple of days) see a message like this on the repo page with a button Share to Profile. By clicking on it, you can see this designed file on your profile home screen.

Method 2:

  1. Fork my profile repo On this link: ombharatiya GitHub Repo
  2. Edit the README.md file with your info and commit it.
  3. Rename your repo according to your GitHub username in the settings tab of the Repo. (for example, my username is ombharatiya)
  4. Once you commit this file you will soon(It might take up to a couple of days) see a message like this on the repo page with a button Share to Profile. By clicking on it, you can see this designed file on your profile home screen.
